SECRETARY GENERAL OF IMO VISITS PANAMA FOR THE OUR OCEANS 2023 CONFERENCE

The eighth Our Ocean Conference was held in Panama, strengthening its leadership as a "Blue Leader", recognized worldwide.

The event was attended by the Secretary General of the IMO, Kitack Lim, who had a special intervention in the Panel on MARITIME SAFETY: ACTIONS FOR AN INNOVATIVE, SUSTAINABLE AND SAFE MARITIME TRANSPORTATION. Our President had the opportunity to talk with him about issues related to the sector and our association. During the event, she also met with Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of the World Maritime University.

Our Ocean 2023 was a space for collaborative dialogue between heads of state, the private sector, civil society and academic institutions to discuss how we can save our marine resources, promote their sustainable use and educate the public about our ocean.

The Conference focused on 6 action areas: Marine Protected Areas, Sustainable Blue Economies, Climate Change, Maritime Security, Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Pollution.

The work associated with each of these areas aims to create spaces dedicated to conserving the ocean's biodiversity, ensuring the sustainable use of its resources, identifying innovative solutions to address Marine Pollution and thus reaffirming the commitment to act for a clean, healthy and productive ocean.

The eighth Conference ended with 361 new commitments, worth more than US$22 billion.
