The XXII Ordinary Meeting of the Regional Operational Cooperation Network of Maritime Authorities of the Americas (ROCRAM) was held from 23 to 25 October in Mexico City, at the premises of the Higher Naval Studies Centre (CESNAV), as part of the 40th anniversary of the organisation.

The Ministry of the Navy led this important hybrid meeting through the Port Captaincy and Maritime Affairs Unit (UNICAPAM), with the participation of the Maritime Authorities of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as the International Maritime Organization and the Latin American Agreement of Viña del Mar. Red MAMLa members Laura Rodríguez Burlada (Argentina), Paula Pérez (Colombia), Paulina Vázquez (Mexico) and Elvia Bustavino (Panama) participated in this regional meeting.

This meeting was held with the aim of further strengthening the network and its integrated work programmes within the framework of technical cooperation mechanisms in the areas of safety of life at sea, prevention of pollution caused by ships, as well as the implementation of the Viña del Mar Agreement and strategies for maritime safety, marine pollution and training of seafarers and fishermen.

During the event, the Secretary General of ROCRAM and Head of UNICAPAM, Vice Admiral Ubaldo Gómez Rodríguez, stated that "the training of personnel through the different courses given by the IMO or some authorities has benefited the personnel of the region. For the Secretariat of the Network, there is only one route on the map: to continue to take actions that will benefit the maritime sector and be reflected in a better implementation of the international treaties emanating from the International Maritime Organisation".

ROCRAM is a regional organisation through which the Maritime Authorities act in an integrated manner at different levels of cooperation by means of a fluid, frank and permanent contact between the member countries.

From Red MAMLa, we congratulate Mexico and UNICAPAM for the important legacy of this meeting.
