MEMBER STATES OF RED MAMLa PARTICIPATE IN THE SIGNING CEREMONY OF THE IALA CONVENTION
The ceremony, which took place last January 26, marks the closing of the phase of change of status of the International Organization of Aids to Maritime Navigation (IALA) to Intergovernmental Organization, a process that began in 2019 and concluded with the signing ceremony of the Convention, held at the headquarters of the IALA in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France.
Within the nations represented by their Minister or Ambassador in Paris, 2 of them are Member Countries of our Association, Cuba and Mexico, who together with: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Guinea Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Iceland, Malta, Mauritania, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia and Vanuatu, conformed the 26 countries that signed the Convention.
Accordingly, a representative of the Directorate of State Protocol and Diplomatic Events of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) has informed that certified copies are currently being prepared for the countries that signed the Convention on January 26.
This Convention will provide IALA with international legal personality and the legal capacity to encourage and facilitate the widespread adoption of rules on aids to maritime navigation to enhance the safety and efficiency of navigation.
The establishment of the International Organization of Aids to Maritime Navigation (IALA) will support action by the international community to promote the safety of seafarers and property at sea, the efficiency of maritime navigation and the environment.
The Organization will play a leading role in ocean governance, an essential area for international and multilateral cooperation.
To date, five States have ratified the Convention: Japan, Singapore, Norway, Malaysia and India. France will soon join them.
The Convention will enter into force once it has been ratified by 30 States.
