COMMEMORATION OF THE 145TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE MERCHANT NAUTICAL SCHOOL OF MAZATLAN, MEXICO

The Merchant Nautical School of Mazatlan is the oldest higher level maritime training institution in Mexico. Commemorating the publication of the decree issued on March 8, 1880 by the President, General Porfirio Diaz Mori, and its 145 years of foundation, contributing to Mexico and the world hundreds of distinguished merchant seamen who have graduated from its classrooms is something that, without a doubt, fills us with satisfaction and deserves to be commemorated.

In 1994, this school, pride of the port of Mazatlan, accepted in its classrooms the first female students marking a before and after in the history of Nautical Education in Mexico, as this consolidated the commitment of the nautical education system with gender equality and barriers were removed so that women could have access to study in any of the three nautical training schools that exist in this country.

As an Associate Member of the MAMLa Network and Captain of the Mexican Merchant Marine, I thank the Rector of the Maritime and Port University of Mexico, Captain Mauricio Cruz Reyes, for his kind invitation to be part of this event and all the staff of this institution for all the attention received during this double celebration.
