RED MAMLa HIGHLIGHTS AT THE FIRST REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON THE DECARBONIZATION OF MARITIME TRANSPORT IN PANAMA
Red MAMLa had an outstanding participation in the First Regional Workshop on Decarbonization of Maritime Transport held at the Panama International Maritime University (UMIP). The event, which brought together key experts and authorities from the maritime sector, focused on energy efficiency technology solutions to move towards more sustainable shipping.
Mr. Victor Luna Barahona, Rector of UMIP, opened the workshop by highlighting the importance of regional collaboration in the search for solutions for the decarbonization of maritime transport. During his speech, he emphasized the fundamental role of the university in promoting innovation and commitment to sustainability in the maritime sector.
For his part, Mr. Carlos Salgado, Chief for Latin America and the Caribbean of the IMO Maritime Development Branch, actively participated in the event and was recognized for his outstanding role as an Honorary Member of Red MAMLa. His contribution to the event and to the promotion of clean technologies in the maritime industry was key to the success of the initiative.
Ms. Valeria Rodríguez Burlada, Vice President of Red MAMLa, intervened in a crucial round table on gender equality in maritime decarbonization in Latin America, moderated by Ms. Aricel Araúz, MTCC LA. During her intervention, she presented the new strategy of Red MAMLa, focused on training, specialization, visibility and recognition of women in the maritime sector.
This workshop also provided an opportunity to recognize the MAMLa members present, with a memorial ceremony that highlighted the work of all Red MAMLa Members in promoting gender equity and sustainability.
Ms. Michelle Arrocha, Permanent General Coordinator of Red MAMLa, thanked MTCC Latin America for its continued support and reaffirmed the Network's commitment to the inclusion of women in the transformation processes of the maritime sector.
