AGENDA 2022: FIRST ORDINARY MEETING OF THE CENTRAL AMERICA WOMEN IN MARITIME AND PORT ASSOCIATION

The First Ordinary Meeting of the Central American Women in Maritime and Port Association (REMPORT) was held this morning, Thursday, February 24. This meeting was organized by the Central American Commission on Maritime Transport - COCATRAM and was held virtually through the Organization's Zoom Platform.

The Central American Women in Maritime and Port Association is a network created by COCATRAM for the exchange and implementation of good practices, experiences and capacity building on gender equity issues in the maritime and port sector.

The meeting began at 09:00 AM (GMT -6) with the opening words by the Vice Minister of Transportation of El Salvador, Mr. Saúl Castelar. Subsequently, the Executive Director of COCATRAM, Mr. Otto Noack, addressed those present to provide an introduction of the contents to be discussed during the day.

Among the most relevant topics, the following points were discussed:

  • Relevant aspects to be included in the 2022 Work Plan.
  • Activities related to the celebration of International Women's Day in the Maritime Sector (May 18).
  • Development of REMPORT Conferences on the occasion of the World Maritime Day.
  • Events related to Maritime Women in Ports Day to be developed by REMPORT member countries.

After a break, the floor was given to Ms. Elvia Bustavino, Secretary General of the Panama Maritime Authority and President of Red MAMLa, who spoke on "Empowerment and Professional Growth of Maritime and Port Women", a topic that was very well received by the attendees, creating an atmosphere of high interest and feedback.

Among the prominent figures who attended the meeting were: Flor de María Pitty, Alternate Delegate of REMPORT and Director of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries (Panama Maritime Authority); Ms. Safiya REID, Advisor of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMPA); and Ms. José María de la Cruz, Director of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMPA). Safiya REID, Advisor of the Directorate of Trade and Sustainable Development (ACS); Melina Díaz Rangel, Coordinator of International Relations Processes (Universidad Autónoma del Caribe); Melissa Paola Consuegra Terán, Director of the Maritime and Port Administration Program (Universidad de La Guajira) and Dr. Alicia Amalia Rodríguez Illescas, Technical Secretary of the Council of Women's Ministers of Central America and the Dominican Republic (COMMCA).

The meeting ended after 12:00 (GMT -6) with the taking of the Official Meeting Photo.
