CAFÉ CON MAMLa, A MOMENT OF INSPIRATION TURNING SORORORITY INTO AN EXPERIENCE

On December 2, a new CAFÉ CON MAMLa was held, an edition that was framed in the concepts of Leadership, Sorority and Resilience. It was organized and produced by the Mentoring Committee of the Association, was open to the public and broadcast via Facebook Live.

The President of Red MAMLa, Paula Pérez Monroy (Colombia), opened the event with the opening remarks, where she highlighted the importance of working from leadership, sorority, resilience, motivation and inspiration, concepts that are also embodied in the Statutes and Strategy of the Network.

Next, the Director of the Mentoring Committee, Lt F JM Leticia Meza (Paraguay), introduced the two guest panelists: Carolina Riesco (Chile) and Lucero Ramirez (Mexico).

Carolina Riesco (Chile) made a wonderful presentation on the topic: "Women's Leadership in the maritime and port sector in Latin America". From the definition of leadership, she integrated the elements that differentiate and finally make up an integral female leadership. She also referred to the current leadership crisis, where a favorable scenario is generated for the presence of a different leadership, based on creativity, commitment and empathy, conditions that are present in female leadership.

Regarding women's leadership in the maritime and port sector, he noted substantial progress in terms of presence, participation and training of women in the sector, which is reflected in the large increase of female personnel in the various institutions and companies, as well as in the number of women graduates of the World Maritime University.

She ended her presentation by encouraging women to train themselves and to dare to take advantage of the opportunities that arise in life and thus achieve effective leadership... "...let us never forget that we are the administrators of our careers and it is only up to us to advance in order to achieve visibility...", she said.

The second panelist, Lucero Ramirez (Mexico), made a special presentation on "Sorority and Resilience of Maritime and Port Women in Latin America". At the beginning of her presentation she shared a motivational video, and then analyzed stories that highlighted teachings about adversity and how facing it positively became learning experiences, highlighting that "...resilience is true love, it is the hope and certainty that my spiritual strength is the engine that leads me to a better life".

She also encouraged to celebrate triumphs with gratitude and kindness, in the awareness that the best scenario is the here and now, since that vision is the one that leads to female empowerment.

At the end of the presentations, the audience participated in a round of questions and then gave way to Carlos Salgado, Head of the Latin America and Caribbean Section (IMO), who highlighted the complementarity in the presentations of both panelists, ranging from the executive and professional view to the holistic view of personal development.

The event was closed by the Director of the Mentoring Committee, Lt F JM Leticia Meza (Paraguay), who thanked the panelists for their excellent presentations. She also emphasized the importance of fulfilling the functions of this Permanent Task Committee by generating leadership and mentoring projects for women in the maritime and port sector in Latin America.
