CAFÉ CON MAMLa ON OIL SPILL MANAGEMENT HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL
Last September 13th, the informative event "Coffee with MAMLa on Oil Spill Management and Response in the United States" was successfully held. The webinar featured the outstanding participation of Cynthia Hudson, CEO of HudsonAnalytix from the United States, who shared her experience and knowledge on the subject. The session was moderated by Daniela Andrade Tamayo, Permanent Representative of Red MAMLA in Ecuador, and was held at 9:00 am (GMT-5) through the Zoom platform.
During the event, strategies and best practices for oil spill management were explored in depth, based on experiences and approaches from the United States. Participants had the opportunity to learn about advanced and effective techniques to address these critical environmental challenges.
Effective management of oil spills in the marine environment is a critical issue due to their devastating impact on marine and coastal ecosystems. A proper response not only mitigates these immediate damages, but also facilitates the long-term recovery of affected ecosystems.
Cynthia Hudson emphasized the importance of coordination among responsible parties in the event of a spill to ensure an efficient response, better management of available resources, clear and accurate communication, and compliance with national legislation.
The best practices and advanced technologies used in the United States to contain and clean up oil spills were also discussed, highlighting their importance in protecting marine biodiversity, ensuring the health of ecosystems, and maintaining the sustainability of marine-related economic activities.
The session was conducted in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish to ensure a broad understanding of the issues discussed.
The event, which was open to the public, was a very enriching experience for professionals and citizens interested in the subject.
Participants expressed their satisfaction with the interesting topics and visions shared during the day, which provided valuable knowledge on how to manage and respond to oil spills.
In her closing remarks, Macarena Cladera, President of Red MAMLa, congratulated the members of the Social Committee for their leadership in the development of this event and emphasized the relevance of what was discussed during the day, pointing out: "As Margaret Mead said: <<we will not have a society if we destroy the environment>>, as a network we have carried out a campaign to reduce environmental impact, so it seems essential to be informed about the management and response to oil spills".
Likewise, Cynthia Hudson mentioned that it was a source of pride for her to be able to share her experience with this Maritime Women's Network, as she has always believed that women have been fundamental to the development of the maritime industry.
