ELSA ALEJANDRA ESCOBAR, FIRST WOMAN TO BE PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN IN THE NAVY IN GUATEMALA
Elsa Alejandra Escobar Mancio has made history by becoming the first woman in Guatemala to achieve the rank of Captain of the Naval Staff. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the inclusion and recognition of women in the armed forces and highlights the talent and dedication of this naval officer, who was also the first female naval cadet to graduate from the Polytechnic School of Guatemala.
Throughout her career, she has held several key positions within the Guatemalan National Defense Navy. Her experience ranges from operational to administrative positions, standing out in areas such as Chief of Studies of the Guatemalan Naval School, the Sub-Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of National Defense (MDN), and as Practical Pilot in Puerto Barrios, Izabal. In addition, he was head of the Legal Advisory Department of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the MDN, consolidating his leadership in the naval field.
With a multidisciplinary professional approach, she has also been an active participant in national and international events related to the maritime sector. She has been a speaker at various forums, including IMO, REMPORT and Red MAMLa events, where she has addressed crucial issues such as the integration of the maritime sector and the role of women in this field. Her participation has been instrumental in strengthening women's leadership in the naval and maritime sector.
In addition to her extensive experience, Alejandra has a solid academic background. She holds a degree in Technology and Resource Management, with several Master's degrees in key areas such as Risk Management, Operations Management, and Logistics Resource Management. She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Maritime and Port Law, which underscores her constant effort to update her knowledge and stay ahead of the industry's challenges. With this promotion, Elsa Alejandra has not only achieved important personal recognition, but has also opened doors for future generations of women in the armed forces and the maritime sector.
