GUATEMALA'S MARITIME AUTHORITY COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Within the framework of the work associated with the Network of Women Maritime Authorities of Latin America (Red MAMLa), the Maritime Authority of Guatemala held a workshop on “Personal Marketing and Teamwork Techniques” at the headquarters of the Pacific Naval Command.  The event was organized through the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, with the support of the permanent and alternate representatives, associate members and honorary members of Red MAMLa.

The event was attended by women from different companies and institutions of the Maritime and Port Sector, who were pleased with the invitation.

The activity began with messages alluding to the importance of women's participation in the maritime port sector, by the Vice Minister of the Navy, Vice Admiral Edy Santiago Chichilla; Captain Luis Enrique Cardenas Sagastume, on behalf of the Pacific Naval Command and Captain DEMN Mario Artemio Veliz, on behalf of the authorities of Puerto Quetzal.

Lorena Rabbé, Honorary Member of Red MAMLa, addressed the audience on the work and achievements of Red MAMLa. Then, Ms. María del Rosario Miranda, a professional of Empresa Portuaria Nacional Santo Tomás de Castilla, spoke about the history and importance of the commemoration of International Women's Day.

Mario Alejandro Solares, Human Resources Manager of Empresa Portuaria Quetzal, was in charge of the workshop “Personal Marketing”. During his presentation he emphasized the importance of this strategy for t building a person's identity and image, as well as highlighting their differentiating qualities, which contributes to achieving goals and objectives. This activity was very enjoyable, there was interaction with the participants and concluded with a motivational message to women on this important day.

This was followed by a panel discussion on "Women's Leadership and Commitment to Achieve Important Goals", moderated by Lieutenant Commander María Sara Navichoc, with the participation of Frigate Captain DEMN Elsa Alejandra Mancio, Director of Studies of the Naval School of Guatemala, and Clara Maria Barrera, Logistics Officer of the Pacific Naval Command.  Lucila Alveño, legal advisor of the Terminal Ferroviaria Puerto Barrios, also participated. Each of them commented on their experiences and the path they have taken with effort and dedication for their professional and personal achievements.

Last but not least, the workshop "Techniques to develop teamwork" was conducted by Mr. Miguel Angel Santos, Training Manager of Empresa Portuaria Nacional Santo Tomás de Castilla.  The workshop included playful activities that allowed a moment of fun, relaxation and entertainment, while reinforcing the importance of working as a team to achieve a common goal in a conducive environment, acquiring commitments.

The closing message was given by the Frigate Ensign and Licentiate Ingrid Jaqueline García Ramírez, Permanent Representative of Red MAMLa, who also coordinated all the details of the event.
