IMO AND WISTA INTERNATIONAL LAUNCH GLOBAL SURVEY ON WOMEN IN MARITIME

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Women in Shipping and Trades International Association (WISTA International) have launched the second edition of their global survey on women in maritime. This project, which is conducted every three years, seeks to collect key data on women's participation in the maritime sector, as well as the roles they play in this strategic field.

The aim of this survey is to contribute to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering a more inclusive and diverse work environment in the maritime sector. The results will inform the design of programs and policies to drive greater participation of women. After analysis, a report containing the results will be made publicly available on the IMO and WISTA International websites.

The survey is divided into two components: one aimed at IMO Member States and one aimed at companies and industry organizations. Member States must designate a Focal Point to collect the necessary data by December 13, 2024. For their part, companies, NGOs, training institutions and other entities can participate through a specific survey designed for their organizational structures.

Deadlines and next steps
The survey will be open from September through the end of December 2024, with final results published in May 2025. Organizations interested in participating can access the form and submit questions by writing to WIMSurvey@imo.org. This initiative is an important opportunity to advance gender equality in a sector that is critical to global trade and sustainability.
