NICARAGUA SEEKS TO IMPROVE PORT OPERATIONS WITH THE REACTIVATION OF A GANTRY CRANE
In Puerto Corinto, the National Port Company of Nicaragua (EPN), carried out the reactivation and certification of the gantry crane, which to date had been out of operation for 5 years.
EPN expects that this reactivation will have a positive impact on harbor operations, reducing the time ships spend in port by significantly increasing container handling per hour.
The manager of Puerto Corinto, Pablo Gerald Solís, said that "...the gantry crane is the most versatile and widely used equipment in port terminals, since it allows to dynamize and speed up cargo movements, doubling the number of maneuvers performed in the same period of time. For example, if we used to handle between 10 and 12 containers per hour on average, with this gantry crane we could handle between 25 and 27 containers per hour".
Also present on the occasion were María Isabel López, Permanent Representative of Red MAMLa, and María Soraya Dubon, Alternate Representative of our organization, who is also in charge of Communications for Puerto Corinto.
The event ended with the Official Reception of the Tugboat "General Sandino", which was undergoing maintenance at the Salina Cruz International Dock, Oaxaca, Mexico.
