A PROMINENT WOMAN FROM THE CHILEAN MARITIME AUTHORITY TOOK PART IN THE PEACE MISSION IN COLOMBIA

First Lieutenant Litoral Paula Carrasco Martínez, a member of Chile's General Directorate of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine (DIRECTEMAR), actively participated in the Peace Mission in Colombia. This mission, organized under international mandates, aims to verify compliance with the agreements reached during the peace process between the Colombian government and insurgent groups.

In this outstanding mission, Lieutenant Carrasco was part of a team composed of six members from different branches of the Chilean Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Carabineros de Chile and Investigative Police. Of this group, five were women and one man, reflecting the growing role of women in international peace and security scenarios.

Lieutenant Paula Carrasco's specific task was to play the role of international observer, a key responsibility within the process. Her task consisted of carrying out field trips, visits and meetings with community leaders in the different municipalities assigned, with the objective of verifying that the points agreed upon in the peace process were correctly fulfilled. In his mission, he also had the function of reporting any non-compliance that might occur, ensuring that the agreements were respected in the Colombian territory.

Lieutenant Carrasco's work not only reflects Chile's commitment to peace in the region, but also the growing prominence of women in diplomacy and international security missions. Her dedication and professionalism in this mission have been a clear example of how female leadership is making a difference in global peace building.
