RED MAMLA ENCOURAGES AND PROMOTES THE INCLUSION OF MARITIME WOMEN

On November 24, the positioning of the maritime woman was highlighted by the College of Officers of the Merchant Marine School of Ecuador, which held an international conference entitled "Inclusion of Women in the Merchant Marine" under the virtual modality.

In this event, Red MAMLa was present with the participation of our Alternate Representative of the Dominican Republic CF. Yudit Ignacio Lora, Director of Gender Affairs of the Dominican Navy; her voice was raised as a maritime woman when she presented the paper "Women in the Navy, how to eliminate gender stereotypes".

During her presentation, the Dominican representative explained the objective and mission of Red MAMLa and then made a journey through the set of stereotyped ideas that are evident in the behavior of both men and women and made an invitation to eradicate such gender stereotypes in our daily lives through training, empowerment and sisterhood, elements that promote gender equality.

CONVERSATORIO: INCLUSIÓN DEL LA MUJER EN LA MARINA MERCANTE

Finally our MAMLa made evident the testimonies of some Dominican women who have broken the glass ceilings in institutions that today embrace the inclusion of women, such as the Navy, the Army and the Air Force, allowing them to specialize in platforms that were previously forbidden for women such as helicopters and interceptor boats, she also made reference to other women who currently hold high positions in the maritime sector both public and private in the Dominican Republic.

CF. Yudit Ignacio together with the rest of the panelists brought a message of awareness and visibility to encourage both women who aspire to take the career as Merchant Marine Officers and men who lead the global maritime sector, in order to generate greater opportunities for inclusion for women, thus ensuring that gender equality is perceived both on board ships and on land.

In summary, this significant conference commits us as an organization to continue working for a region that is more sensitive and identified with the inclusion of women in the maritime sector.
