RED MAMLa HONORARY MEMBER MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT OF IMSO GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Ecuadorian Luisa Zambrano Burgess, Assistant Attaché and Technical Advisor of Ecuador to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has made history by being elected as the first Vice President of the General Assembly of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) during the 29th General Assembly held in London. An honorary member of the Red MAMLA and with a distinguished career in the Ecuadorian Maritime Authority since 2006, Luisa has achieved an important milestone by assuming this position, marking the first time that both the IMSO presidency and vice-presidency have been held by women. Her election highlights the commitment and leadership of women in the maritime and telecommunications fields worldwide.

IMSO, the International Maritime Satellite Organization, is based in London and has 100 member states. This organization plays a key role in overseeing satellite communications within the Maritime Mobile Satellite System (GMDSS), ensuring the proper functioning of global communication services for maritime safety and environmental protection.

In addition to its work in the field of satellite communications, IMSO has been appointed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to audit and evaluate the performance of the International Long-Range Identification and Tracking System for Ships (LRIT). This system is essential for the monitoring and safety of navigation, allowing ships to be located in real time, thereby improving the safety of international shipping.

Luisa Zambrano Burgess continues to actively participate in the meetings of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), contributing to the development of the maritime sector in Ecuador and the world.
