WORLD CLEANUP DAY 2021

Today, September 18 is World Cleanup Day, an initiative that aims to reduce pollution along the coastline and in the sea and is held annually on the third Saturday of September.

This movement began in 2008, in Estonia, which in its first campaign managed to mobilize more than 50,000 people who voluntarily came forward to support this cause, resulting in the elimination of 10,000 tons of garbage.

Currently, the organization Let's Do It World is leading this initiative, bringing together 180 countries and 50 million volunteers, who have managed to recycle more than 280 tons of illegal waste and garbage.

“70% of our oxygen is produced in oceans, but each year 8 million tons of plastic ends up in them polluting our waters. Time to stop the flow of garbage into our waters!” — WCD.ORG
