A CHRONICLE FOR OUR CHRONICLES

By: Lissette Moreno Salamanca. Publicist. Specialist in Digital Marketing and Information Platform Development. Honorary Member of Red MAMLa

It is said that "...a person who reads lives a thousand lives before he dies", and I could not agree more. Every time we read a text, from an informative column in the press to a fiction novel, inevitably, the imagination is activated and for a moment, we forget the physical place that surrounds us to open ourselves to new experiences and adventures, creating a jealous private space between reading and our emotions.

And, personally, that is what happens to me every time I have to publish a new Maritime Chronicle in this Web Site.

Since a young age, I have been fascinated by art and communications, and when it came to choosing a career path, Advertising was one of the first concepts that came to my mind because of its exquisite balance between art, creativity and communication through diverse platforms. On the other hand, the sea has been a faithful companion; I have lived in coastal cities all my life. My parents, both in different areas, were and still are sailors by soul and profession.

The conjugation of these two passions has allowed me to travel through several universes, which, between winds and navigations, a year ago led me to join Red MAMLa, where through the Communications Committee; I collaborate with the maintenance and updating of these pages.

I could expand myself in technical data; it has been a year of intense work and with many challenges. We have seen our website grow in an incredible way, the numbers speak for themselves, but beyond the amount of visits and likes received, they tell us about the preferences and interests of those who visit and read us.

In this virtual space, the Maritime Chronicles section has been everyone's favorite, and I am no exception. Every week, I anxiously await the day I receive that special email... the one with the subject line "...to publish in Maritime Chronicles", and I can't help the excitement you feel when you know you will live a new adventure. My eyes sparkle and I quickly download the file that I know will take me to unexplored worlds.

Through the 43 articles published to date, I have delighted in the prose, in the history, in the evolution of the maritime-port sector, and in the story of perseverance and work to open spaces for professional women. I have been able to learn about the regulations and legislation of this sector and also about the new challenges that need to be overcome for the maritime industry to move towards a sustainable future.

This, due to the invaluable cooperation of various specialists in the maritime industry, who have taken pen and paper, and have offered us their expert vision on cutting-edge issues that stand out in the sector. Likewise, 15 of our Member States have contributed excellent writings to this section, providing a local approach to the maritime world, which allows us to better internalize the progress and development of maritime, port and logistics in Latin America.

Each topic presented has been of high technical content, covering the current trends prevailing in the maritime industry. Most recurrent topics have referred to the modernization of Maritime-Port Operations, Pandemic and COVID19, the work of Seafarers, International Maritime Regulations, Maritime Signaling, Environment and Gender Equality, among others.

The experience lived through the lines of each article has been, without a doubt, very enriching. It only remains for me to thank each of the authors for showing me different corners of the exciting maritime world and Red MAMLa for allowing me, as an Honorary Member, to be part of this beautiful journey.

Finally, I wish to extend a warm invitation to you to visit, through reading, this ocean of experiences captured in our Maritime Chronicles. Of course, the invitation goes with this warning: once there, you will always want to return, because you will have at your fingertips a sea of knowledge and experiences just a click away.
