COFFEE WITH MAMLA: “LISTENING AND STRATEGIES FOR ASSERTIVENESS”
Last November 7, 2024, Red MAMLa held a new version of the virtual event Café con MAMLa, this time with the theme: “Communication Skills: Listening and Strategies for Assertiveness”, under the guidance of the Mentoring Committee led by Natalia Suárez.
The activity brought together leading professionals and participants from different countries interested in strengthening their communication skills, a key aspect to improve performance in the workplace.
The event was attended by Macarena Cladera, President of Red MAMLa, and a panel of experts, Alternate Member, Katherine Caro. Speakers included Carla González, transportation lawyer and mentor from the Dominican Republic; Sergio Sequera Yepes, organizational coach and international speaker from Venezuela; and Leticia Navarro, human development specialist and organizational coach. Each shared practical strategies and reflections on the importance of active listening and assertiveness in dynamic work environments.
During the event, they highlighted how assertive communication, combined with effective listening, can significantly improve working relationships and productivity. The ability to express ideas with clarity, empathy and respect helps to avoid misunderstandings, strengthen work teams and create a collaborative environment. In addition, assertiveness is essential for conflict management and effective leadership, skills that are increasingly valued in modern organizations. Participants also actively interacted and reflected on how to apply these tools in their respective work contexts.
In this way, "Coffee with MAMLa", together with other similar initiatives, reaffirms Red MAMLa's commitment to the human and professional development of its members, promoting essential skills for effective leadership and successful communication in the maritime sector and beyond.
