MSW: DIGITAL PLATFORM THAT WILL TRANSFORM MARITIME TRANSPORT

On January 1, 2024, the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL) will enter into force, requiring governments to implement a Maritime Single Window.

This unique digital platform enables the exchange and sharing of ship information with the aim of optimizing the procedures for the arrival, stay and departure of ships, thus significantly improving the efficiency of maritime transport worldwide.

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, underlined the importance of digitization in the sector, stating that "...digitization is fundamental for greater efficiency in maritime transport. The Maritime Single Window provides information between ships, ports and government agencies in a fast, reliable and fluid way". This measure is part of a broader effort to modernize maritime operations and facilitate international trade.

In addition, IMO is pursuing a number of initiatives to bridge the digital divide in the maritime sector. The video below highlights the progress and expected impact of this innovative project, which promises not only to accelerate the digitization of maritime transport, but also to contribute to a safer and more efficient environment for global maritime trade.
