On November 24, the positioning of the maritime woman was highlighted by the College of Officers of the Merchant Marine School of Ecuador, which held an international conference entitled "Inclusion of Women in the Merchant Marine" under the virtual modality.
The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women was issued by the UN General Assembly in 1993, and defines violence against women as "any act of violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life
Last week the Latin America Women's Maritime Association - Red MAMLa, held a Virtual Ordinary Session in which the nominations of new members to join the organization were presented.
On Thursday, November 11, the IMO Council decided to accept the proposal to establish an International Day for women in the maritime sector. This proposal will be adopted next December 2021 at the IMO Assembly to commemorate women at sea and will aim to promote the recruitment, retention and visibility of the work they perform in the several areas of the maritime world.
