In accordance with the WOMEN IN MARITIME Program and its strong commitment to improve gender balance in the maritime sector, the International Maritime Organization - IMO confirms the creation of a new Women's Association: WIMoWCA (Association for Women in Maritime of West and Central Africa).
Founded in 1957, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities - IALA, is a non-profit association that provides technical advice to the maritime-port community through the creation of a series of committees that bring together experts from around the world.
In the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, seafarers found themselves on the front line of the global response and subjected to difficult working conditions around uncertainty and difficulties of access to ports, resupply, crew changes, repatriation, etc.
Tomorrow, June 25, is the "Day of the Seafarer", for this commemoration, IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim, is calling to support and create a fair future for seafarers.
